How the Gospel Rap Ministry began:
In the fall of 1985, I was pastoring Wesley Chapel CME Church in Madisonville, KY. I wanted to teach my children and youth the books of the bible and I thought if I could rhyme them it would be easy for them to learn. When completed-my young people had so much fun learning the books of the bible; they said “Reverend…that sounds like a Rap”. And that’s how I got nicked named Rev. Rap’. As a minister, I thought if I could take the Word of God and use Rap as a vehicle, a tool, to teach God’s Word in a way that’s educational and entertaining, our children and youth would be exposed to scriptures, biblical stories and the life of Christ that could positively and biblically impact their lives for many years to come. Every time a child hears the Word of God in Rap over and over again, it reinforces all the Sunday school lessons, Sermons, and those positive words they’ve heard from their parents, pastors and teachers, but in a way that captures their attention and entertains them as well as educates them.

My Christian Heritage
I grew up at Brown Memorial CME Church in Louisville, Ky. I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in my early teens, and I accepted my call to ministry in July 1977 at the age of 24 on youth night at the KY Annual Conference in Louisville, KY. I preached my first message in September of 1977. At the time I was working the grave yard shift at A & P food chain in Louisville KY, and placed an announcement on the community board in our store to invite workers and customers alike to my first sermon. My pastor, Dr. W. C. Larkin and I observed my friends and family coming through the doors. In addition, several Cadillac's and Lincoln Town Cars pulled into the church parking lot. A hand full of multi-colored, polyester-clad young men got out and waited in the down stairs vestibule of the church, while their lavishly dressed ladies of the night went upstairs to attend the worship services. Dr. Larkin asked me if they were what they appeared to be, to which I replied “Sure, pimps and prostitutes…they shop at A&P in the early morning”…He just smiled and said son, you’re going to have some kind of ministry. Twenty nine years later, I’m serving as Chaplain at Vienna Correctional Center in Illinois for the past seven years and average over 200 men in worship services every Wednesday Night at the 1500 inmate facility, the most regularly attended worship services in the history of the facility. I’m also Chaplain at IIP Boot Camp for first time offenders in Dixon Springs, Illinois. I have pastored 9 churches and in 1986 I prayed to God to confirm whether or not he wanted me to be an Evangelist. God answered my prayer and sent an Apostle, to anoint me on October 7, 1987 for the office of Evangelist. Ministry is my life and my passion.
